Join our 3-Day Chimpanzee Tracking Tour, Trekking in Kibale Forest is one of the best places in Uganda to do wild Chimpanzee tracking and other species of primates as the forest ranks first in Africa in possession of primates. We can still arrange for a memorable experience by booking you for the habitat of the chimpanzees. This will leave you with an extra Chimpanzee experience.

Other primate species to observe while in the forest are the black and white colobus, the red colobus, the grey-cheeked mangabey, and the rare l’Hoest monkey. Also, nocturnal primates like the Thomas’s galago can be seen. Trekking in the Bigodi Swamp for 3 hours is nature rewarding activity. This brings you to over 200 bird species, 8 primate species, mammals like bushpig, bushbuck, and the very shy and endangered sitatunga.

Day 1: Pick up and Transfer to Kibale National Park

Leave the Ugandan capital of Kampala and drive to Fort Portal, a lovely town resting in the shadow of the fabled Mountains of the Moon, and famous for its tea plantations.

Enjoy a packed lunch along the way as you pass the Crater Lakes region on your way to the secluded Kibale forest camp within the Kibale Forest National Park. An optional visit to the Bigodi swamp or visit a local community initiative – the Bigodi Wetland Walk.

Be on the lookout for primates and the rare great blue turaco, one of the 138 bird species found in the swamp area depending on the time of arrival. Retire at the lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 2: Chimpanzee Trekking Experience

After an early morning breakfast, you will head to the park offices for registration and join others for the dos and don’ts during your chimpanzee trek.

Once this is done, you will trek through the thick creepers and undergrowth with your guides to find the chimpanzees which can take you from half an hour to three-quarters of the day.

The forest boasts the greatest variety and highest concentration of primates in East Africa, providing sightings of wild chimpanzees, red-tailed monkeys, and black-and-white colobus monkeys. Retire at the lodge for dinner and overnight stay.
